Falling for Fall

Nature, Travel

Autumn is our favorite season. We love the crisp feeling in the air, the chance to carve pumpkins, eating turkey at Thanksgiving, and especially seeing the fall colors. Nothing beats a scenic mountain drive to see the changing leaves. Here is the Lodge at Red River Ranch’s top fall drives. Check them out; you won’t be disappointed.

Cedar Breaks – is known as “the little Bryce.” As you might expect, it contains similar geology to Bryce Canyon. It is a great place to take the family picnicking, camping, or snowshoeing. This is also our favorite fall drive. Cedar Breaks is on a high elevation plateau, and the aspen leaves promise brilliant splashes of gold and red. Drive up Cedar Canyon and enjoy the many overlooks. We can’t say enough about this drive.

Fishlake National Forest – a little closer to home, Fishlake National Forest has one of the best scenic routes for fall colors in Southern Utah. Drive it multiple times if you can, and experience the different shades that change as the season grows on. Squeeze in a little fishing on the lake before the ice sets in.

Boulder Mountain – take the drive from Torrey or Capitol Reef up to the little alpine town of Boulder, Utah. This is one of our favorite scenic drives anytime of the year, but it especially good when fall comes around. Be sure to take time to stop at some of the overlooks.

Fall road trips to see the changing leaves are a tradition for us at the Lodge at Red River Ranch. We hope you will come see some of the best leaves in the state, here in Southern Utah.
