Snow will soon come to Southern Utah. Which is perfect. It means you get the chance to explore the backcountry on snowmobile. Snowmobiling allows you to get into some seldom-visited areas of Utah. Here are two recreational areas near the Lodge that are perfect for snowmobiling.
Fishlake National Forest – accessed on highway 24, a few miles outside of Loa, Utah, is a forest for all seasons. Hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, and of course snowmobiling are the favorite pastimes here. Fishlake National Forest covers an area of over 1.5 million acres. Plenty of room to explore. Check out a list of trails here. As long as your there, try a little ice fishing on the lake. Also check out the restaurant at the Bowery Haven, which is open year round.
Cedar Mountain and East Fork – possibly the best snowmobiling trails in Southern Utah; we at the Lodge at Red River Ranch encourage you to take a trip to Cedar City to check them out. The upper highland location is perfect for a day in the snow. A list of trails can be found here. (Duck Creek is our personal favorite.) Spend some time in Cedar City while you’re in the neighborhood. We always enjoy a play at the Utah Shakespeare Festival.
Snowmobiling can be tons of fun, but it’s important to be safe. Check out safety information here. We at the Lodge want you to have some extra fun this winter – and snowmobiling is the key.
