The Lodge and its Bison

The American Bison is tied to the story of the Old West like almost no other creature. It provided food, clothing, and shelter for the native tribes that lived on the plains. It aided the trappers and the early wilderness explorers that came from the east. The bison fueled the spread of the pioneers, giving them the opportunity to settle new lands. But, unfortunately, the once numberless herds of bison were hunted to near extinction. Only small population pockets survived. However, the story is having a happy ending. The bison are now repopulating the west, serving as a symbol of American resilience. We at the Lodge at Red River Ranch are proud to support our own small herd of American Bison.
