Summer is the best time to get away from it all for a while. Southern Utah provides the perfect mix of recreation and relaxation. There is so much to do here, everything from hiking to fishing, or just simply spending time with family and friends. If you are looking for a little excitement, however, we, at the Lodge at Red River Ranch, suggest you check out Little Sahara Recreation Area.

Little Sahara is a 60,000-acre area set aside for riding motorcycles and other recreational motor vehicles. As the name implies, the Little Sahara is a desert region composed of massive sand dunes. These impressive dunes are what make Little Sahara such a popular place to ride. You can take your bikes, ATVs and dune buggies to the hills and tear it up. Some of the most popular physical features to tackle in Little Sahara are Dune Mountain, White Sand Dunes and Black Mountain. These destinations offer different types of off highway adventure.

We suggest you stop by the visitor center (hours fluctuate – click here for details) to review safety guidelines and to learn more about the environment that you get to play in. There are several different large accommodation campsites in Little Sahara Recreational Area. At the time of this blog publication, a campsite costs eighteen dollars. At two of these campgrounds large areas have been fenced off to create some of the world’s largest sandboxes. Kids are almost guaranteed to love it here, so bring some buckets and shovels.

Little Sahara is one of the perfect places to spend a weekend this summer. You can mix the right amount of excitement during the day with relaxation in the evenings. Go check it out, you won’t be disappointed.
